SAP software is accepted as the standard in industries such as oil, chemicals, consumer products and electronics.

SAP AG was founded in 1972. It has its headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. It has employs 7,000 people. It has 28 subsidaries and 21 regional offices.

SAP UK is based in Feltham, Middlesex.

The germanic nature of the development of the system over the last 25 years must have had an effect. The package is extremely well designed to cope with most of the possible scenarios that a business encounters.

TRANSACTION APPROACH
The basic unit of the system is a transaction. The transaction models the real life situation that occurs during a business transaction. To put it another way, a SAP transaction is like a business "event". Many companies have used this feature to help them redefine their own business processes. A direct consequence of the SAP design is that systems programming is very focused on the actual activity of the employee. Therefore programming is very efficient.
