Pedagogy

Pedagogy

Pedagogy is the art or profession of teaching. One remarkable constant in information science is the incredibly low standard to which computing books are written. This is presumably because the demand for computing books is so high, so quality suffers due to the pressure to produce books so quickly.

This job is not made any easier by the complex IS vocabulary which is changing on a year-by-year basis.

Maybe it is a characteristic of some teachers that they like a bit of pain. Of course we need to look at the motives for those who wish to teach, it is not necessarily to inform: teaching positions are given to those with the power to inform, but that power is weakened if it is felt to be giving away too many secrets.

In other words: The perfect teacher may put themselves out of a job. Of course, teachers with no financial motive, but purely altruistic motives, would be ideal, because then they would pass on the information in the most efficient way.

The other aspect of teaching relates to the difference between the most pleasant way to teach and the most efficient way to teach. It might be the case that teaching is more efficient if a little stress or pain is felt by the students.

Also note the status of learning object groups regarding ideal "chunks" of data - being around five - nine.
